The Ram Club, Series 2 Shipment 1

SPOILER WARNING:  For those of you who are part of The Unique Sheep‘s The Ram Club, Series 2 and haven’t yet received your February shipment, please skip this post for now.

For the rest of you, please click through to see some photos of the wonderful goodies…

Again, I would have to say that the packaging methods for the shipment left something to be desired but the contents more than made up for this shortcoming.

Behold the first shipment of The Ram Club, Series 2:

This February shipment had a decidedly Valentine’s Day bent that I found to be fun and enjoyable.  As you can see in the above photograph, this shipment contained, not one, but two yarns.  The first of these is The Unique Sheep‘s Tinsel Toes in the Ram Love colorway.  This colorway combines some lovely slate greys with areas of faint wine reds.

The second, smaller skein was also of Tinsel Toes, this time in the colorway Hickey, a semi-solid of  a wonderfully deep shade of red.

So, you may be asking at this point: Why two yarns?  Well, the reason is the pattern:

As you can see in the photo, this pattern – Slip Him a Hickey, designed by Charles of Stitch Stud and His Bride – contains colorwork.  The main body of the sock utilizes the Ram Love colorway but the bottom portion of the leg contains some colorwork in the Hickey colorway.  The pattern also utilizes a short row heel.  Knitting these socks would give me a chance to try out two techniques I have never used – colorwork and short rows.

Also included in the package, were these yummy carmels, which I’m eating while composing this post…

…and this cute little button.

Overall, it was a wonderful little shipment of sock-y goodness.  I will have to knit these socks soon.  For now though, I’m off to swatch for the Hobbiton socks…
