Things have been quite busy lately. I don’t know where the time has gone… It always seems to be this way around the holidays, though. So much to do, so little time to do it in. Oh well…
As I said in one of my previous posts, one of the projects that has been occupying my time over this past week is the moving of my craft supplies to a new, more centralized home. One of the side effects of all this contact time with my stash has been the overwhelming desire to cast on for a million projects. This, however, is not a good thing during this time of holiday crafting. There are simply too many things that have to get done on a deadline for me to be distracted by other projects. I also know that I can’t do all of the projects I have in mind right away; there is a limit to how many projects I can viably keep going at any one time.
So, I’ve come up with a solution to try to narrow down the field:
Meet my “on deck” basket. (I apologize for the crap picture. The sun still alludes me. I really need to build myself a light box for times like these…)The concept behind this basket is that I keep the yarn for the projects I plan on doing immediately after my current projects in one place. While the concept is still a work in progress, I think that it will help me plan out projects as well as limit the number of projects I plan on undertaking at any one time by physically limiting the space I have available.
Now, let’s take a look at what is in the basket right now:
- 4 skeins of Noro Kuryeon in varying shades of green, brown, purple and red for some variation on a striped scarf
- 1 skein of Malabrigo Sock in the Impressionist Sky colorway for a pair of socks, the pattern for which is as yet undecided. I am thinking something nicely textured, perhaps another design of my own…
- 2 skeins of Cascade Heritage Paints in a muted variegation of grays and blues for my very own Clapotis. My knitting group might have a clap-along in the new year…
- 7 skeins of Blue Sky Alpacas Dyed and Organic Cotton, way in the back there, in a chocolaty brown, a bright blue and an off-white for a Wave Blanket. This will be my second one and it is all for me this time around.
I have been thinking that I may just have to cram some more sock yarn into the basket soon, though. I’m jonesing for more sock knitting time… And yarn is squishy…
Anyway, I cannot wait to dip into the basket after the gift knitting is over… Or perhaps a bit before then…
I think this is a great idea. It is so hard to stay focused on the projects at hand when you have so much great yarn. I bought some sock yarn this week and can’t cast on till after christmas.
Wow, what a fantastically stuffed basket! I’m officially jealous.
[…] plan. Pair stash yarn and patterns. Keep a list. Try to control startitis with the use of the “on deck” basket (henceforth to be referred to as ODB). I’ve also been toying with the idea of committing to […]
