happy things for hump day, 2011.#07

It’s Wednesday. I need some happy things to get me over that hump in the middle of the week. I thought you might, too; so, some of the things that have made me smile recently:

  1. Listening to the NPR podcast Alt.Latino.  According to the show’s tagline, Alt.Latino is “NPR’s Music program dedicated to Latin Alternative music and rock in Spanish.”  I don’t speak a lick of Spanish (although my background in Latin is a bit helpful at times, even though I’m very rusty) but I’m enjoying the heck out of discovering a lot of awesome, upbeat music.  I found the podcast via another podcast I’ve been listening to recently, NPR’s All Songs Considered.  Both podcasts are enjoyable and a great way to discover new or rediscover old musical interests.
  2. Listening to the CLDSCP album Niños Azules.  Branded as an indie folk band, CLDSCP is a group from Argentina that incorporates samples from found objects, most notably electronic toys, into their songs.  Combined with upbeat vocals and creative charango (think South American ukulele) work, this sampling adds to the creation of fun and quirky songs.  I was turned onto this band by a recent episode of Alt.Latino.  If this description intrigues you, check out the band’s website, where they have posted all of their music free of charge.
  3. Looking through the backlog of Natalie Dee comics.  Some of my recent favorites include:
we are all going to be congested forever

sorry baby i dont finish shit

    im useless

  4. Craving a chance to make Jalapeño Popper Dip.  You know it sounds good… [Found via eat me, delicious]

That’s it for now! Happy Hump Day!! Hope you too find something that makes you smile.
