happy things for hump day, 2011.#06

It’s Wednesday. I need some happy things to get me over that hump in the middle of the week. I thought you might, too; so, some of the things that have made me smile recently:

  1. Looking through this awesome gallery of works by German artist Simon Schubert.  He creates scenes, mostly architectural, by creasing single sheets of paper.  It’s awesome!!  I think my favorite is this one:

  3. Listening to the The Decemberists’ album The Hazards of Love.  Who doesn’t love a little rock opera?!
  4. Considering constructing some magnetic tin terrariums to adorn my old metal filing cabinet at the office using this tutorial.  I need more plant life in my work life…  [Found via lifehacker]
  5. Exploring photos of mushrooms on Flickr.  Those who know me, know that I love mushrooms.  Not only eating them, but looking at and photographing them as well.  Along this line, I’m part of the Mushrooms group over on Flickr.

Occasionally I get a chance to look through the photos that group members post to the pool and I’m always fascinated by what I find.  I’m also a bit jealous.  I don’t live in an area where I get to see a lot of mushrooms, in a lot of varieties.  A love of mushrooms is just one more reason to move to a house in the woods… in the mountains… near some body of water, like a stream…  Can you tell I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately?

Anywho, some of my recent favorites from the group pool include this, this and this.  As a bonus, these photos often contain other plants that I love to look at and photograph: moss and ferns!

That’s it for now! Happy Hump Day!! Hope you too find something that makes you smile.
