happy things for hump day, 2012.05.30

It’s Wednesday. I know that it’s a short work week for many in the United States, given the Memorial Day holiday, but I still need some happy things to get me over that hump in the middle of the week. I thought you might, too; so, some of the things that have made me smile recently:

  1. Listening to Janelle Monáe.  Check out one of my favorites:

  2. Considering undertaking an epic instant ramen tasting adventure, inspired by The Ramen Rater blog.  Who knew that instant ramen could be so varied, tasty and versatile?!  I might start by seeking out some of the noodles on The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten List.
  3. Watching videos by YouTube user RRCherryPie.  This guy(?) makes videos of him constructing crazy, intricate Japanese candy kits.  (To be honest, he has other types of videos that show miniatures and food-related, clay-based crafting projects, but the candy ones are my favorite.)  The detail in this particular one blows my mind:

That’s it for now! Happy Hump Day!! Hope you too find something that makes you smile.

  1. Checking out the totally awesome video game inspired stitching of gatchacaz over on deviantART.  It’s freakin’ amazing.  Just check out this blackwork Flygon:

Craft envy – I haz it!

  2.  (Speaking of Pokemon) Considering the awesomeness that could result from the combination of Pokemon and a tactical RPG set in feudal Japan in the upcoming Pokemon Conquest.  Check out the trailer:

I feel the need to preorder…

  3. Browsing 19th century watercolor sketches of Chinese and Japanese marine life as seen in the manuscript Afbeeldingen van Chinese vissen, HS 433 (Images of Chinese fish) hosted by the University of Groningen Library. Some of my favorites:
     Lepidotrigla japonica (Bleeker, 1854)
    inktvis Euprimna morsei (Verrill, 1881)
    Trigla

It’s Wednesday. I need some happy things to get me over that hump in the middle of the week. I thought you might, too; so, some of the things that have made me smile recently:

  1. Listening to my new music crush:

The Brett Domino Trio. These two gents create covers using electronic and unusual instrument, delivered in a quirky and humorous manner. I love me some good theremin playing. Good, mind you…

  2. Looking at the video game inspired stitching highlighted over on mr x stitch is starting to make me think that some cross stitch may be the perfect summer crafting for me…
  3. Watching The Nerdy Nummies Cooking Show.  Nerd-inspired recipes!  Could you ask for anything more?!  One of my favorites from the series is, predictably, the unicorn rainbow cake:
